Clane GAA host a 5k and 10k event which has been gaining in popularity the past few years. Plant Based AC athletes took to the road on a crisp, clear, chilly November morning and signed up for the 10km event.
With a large field of competitors, it was all systems go from the start. The street was full of the local community cheering the field on and the course littered with supporters coming out of their homes to support the athletes in their endeavors.
The 10km route had its ups and downs, in the line of rolling hills, which added to the interest of the event, though the hills balanced each other out overall and athletes confirmed it was a fair and honest course! One to remember for next year.
With the coldness of the day our top finisher Lea, even donned a pair of thick wooly gloves to aide his running performance. He had an exceptional race with a negative 5k split, to finish strongly in second place to the Irish national marathon champion of 2022, Martin Hoare of Celbridge AC. Lea put in a superb performance to achieve this, well done Lea!
Plant Based AC also had a strong performance on the women's side, where Rachel narrowly missed a podium finish, returning home in fourth place overall, but with a huge PB for her 10km time. Well done and train harder is the message here Rachel!!
